About Maryland Estimated Tax Payments
Estimated tax payments are required if you expect to owe at least $500 in Maryland tax for 2025 after withholding/credits. This applies to self-employed individuals, business owners, landlords, investors, retirees, and nonresidents with Maryland-source income.
Payment Methods: Pay online at www.marylandtaxes.gov, by check with Form 502D to Comptroller of Maryland, 110 Carroll Street, Annapolis, MD 21411-0001, or by credit card/EFW. Payments over $1,500 or totaling >$6,000 annually must be electronic.
Penalties: Underpayment penalties apply if less than 90% of 2025 tax is paid by due dates, unless you meet safe harbor rules (110% of 2024 tax for AGI >$150,000).
Special Cases: Nonresidents pay a 2.25% special tax plus state/local taxes. Farmers can pay by January 15, 2026, or file/pay by March 2, 2026. Filing extensions to October 15, 2026, don’t extend payment deadlines.
